Composition of the substance
active substance: 1 ml of solution contains brimonidine tartrate 2 mg; 1 ml contains 2 3 drops;
Excipients: sodium chloride, acid tartar, sodium tartrate, hypromellose, benzalkonium chloride, sodium hydroxide, water for injections.
Indication
Open-angle glaucoma or increased intraocular pressure (IOP).
- Monotherapy in patients who contraindicated the use of local beta-blockers.
- As part of complex therapy with other drugs to reduce IOP when monotherapy does not produce the desired result.
Pharmacological propertiesі
Pharmacodynamics..
Brimonidine is an agonist of alpha-2 adrenergic receptors, which is a thousand times more selective for alpha-2 adrenergic receptors than for alpha-1 adrenergic receptors.
Such selectivity is the cause of the absence of myriasis and narrowing of the microvessels associated with human retinal xenografts.
The local application of brimonidine tartrate in humans reduces intraocular pressure with minimal effect on cardiovascular and pulmonary activity.
Brimonidine tartrate 0.2% is characterized by a rapid onset of action, the peak hypotonic effect on the eyes is achieved within 2 hours after application. In the study of brimonidine, tartrate reduced 0.2% intraocular pressure by an average of 4-6 mm Hg.
The results of animal and human studies indicate that brimonidine tartrate has a dual mechanism of action. Brimonidine tartrate is believed to reduce the IOP by 0.2% as a result of a decrease in aqueous humor and an increase in uveoscleral outflow.
